BIOGRAPHY

Presently, Mr. McIntyre travels worldwide as a freelance Performer, Choreographer, Répétiteur, Ballet Master, Dance Teacher & Adjudicator.
Originally from Port Macquarie, New South Wales Australia, Darren McIntyre is a graduate of The Australian Ballet School, receiving his Advanced Diploma of Dance in 1999.
Mr. McIntyre has toured extensively throughout the United States, Australia, Asia, Canada, Europe & South America, performing a wide range of classical, neo-classical, modern, contemporary and musical theatre works as a freelance artist & with such companies as Louisville Ballet (KY-USA), City Ballet of San Diego (CA-USA), Milwaukee Ballet (WI-USA), Ajkun Ballet Theatre (NYC-USA), The Landestheater Detmold in Germany, The National Ballet of Ireland & The Australian Ballet Dancers Company.
This has expanded his repertory to include the title roles in all the traditional repertory ballets & has also seen him featured in works by Anthony Tudor, August Bournonville, Bruce Wells, Cameron McMillian, Chiara Ajkun, Christopher Fleming, David Dawson, DeeAna Hiett, Edwaard Liang, Edward Stierle, Elizabeth Wistrich, Ellen Sinopoli, Elsa Genova, George Balanchine, Gregor Thieler, Gunther Falussy, Harrison McEldowney, James Sutherland, Jessica Lang, Karen Gibbons-Brown, Katia Garza, Leslie Norton, Luis Dominguez, Lynn Parkerson, Mark Godden, Mary Giannone, Michael Fokine, Michael Pink, Miki Olsen, Nacho Duato, Nelly Van Bommel, Peter Anastos, Peter Quanz, Robert Curran, Salvatore Aiello, Stanton Welch, Stephen Mills, Val Caniparoli, Victor Trevino, Wan Chin Choong, to name a few.
Darren performed with New York City’s Experience “The Ride“ (Actor | Dancer) and was honoured to be featured as an original cast member (Actor | Dancer) in the world premiere and the first Australian Tour of the Australian hit production “BANJO” (in the role of Banjo Paterson), presented by Got Ya Back Productions, written and produced by Tim Maddren and directed by Nicholas Christo. He has also performed in several opera and musical theatre productions including Sweet Charity, Le Misérables, Ein Tango for Toulouse Lautrec, Zar and Zimmerman, Die Fledermaus, Die Maske in Blau to name a few.
Darren has danced as a special guest performer at several international dance festivals in Italy, Greece, Australia, Japan, Mexico and was invited to represent The USA at The 4th International Ballet Festival of South America in Colombia. He has also travelled to Canada to perform as special guest artist in the principal role of Karl in John Carney’s original production of “The Nutcracker“, which was originally created on Darren in 2005.
Darren was the recipient of several scholarships including The Dame Peggy Van Praagh Award for Choreography, The Sir Robert Helpmann Bursary, The Young Australian of The Year Arts Award and has been recognized by the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) as an Artist of Extraordinary Ability. He was a Bronze Medallist at the Society of Dance Awards Australia (1993) and was selected to represent Australia at the Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland (1996). Darren was a Finalist at Isobel Anderson RAD Awards (1994|1995) and in The Advance Awards (2021).

In 2009 Mr. McIntyre took up the position of Artistic Director, Casting Agent and Talent Scout at DManagement International Dance Agency, a presenting agency established to promote some of the world’s finest artists to the performing arts industry. Darren was then appointed Artistic Director, Ballet Master & resident Choreographer of Montgomery Ballet, Alabama USA in January 2012 and brought to the company several innovative creations as well as maintaining the traditional classic repertory ballets throughout his three-season tenure. In 2015 he served as Interim Artistic Director, Ballet Master & resident Choreographer for Lake Erie Ballet, Pennsylvania USA. In 2017 Darren served as Artistic Associate, Ballet Master and Guest Artist/Choreographer with the Fort Wayne Ballet in Indiana USA. In 2021 Mr. McIntyre accepted a three-year appointment as Artistic Director of Ballet Pensacola professional Company in Florida, USA where he also collaborated with Pensacola Opera, Pensacola Symphony, Foo Foo Fest, Vacation Artfully and Pensacola Little Theatre.
As a Choreographer & Creative Director, He has presented several original short works including: “AETERNUM“, “ARBEIT MACHT FREI“, “AUSTRALIA“, “BLACK BIRD“, “BLACK RIVER“, “FLEET WEEK“, “FORLORN“, “JUST MAKE IT GO AWAY“ , “LIBERTY BELL“, “LIGHTS WILL GUIDE YOU HOME“, “LUMINOUS DARKNESS“, “ODYSSEY“, “ONE SNOWY NIGHT“, “SPARTAN“, & “UNCHAINED MELODY”. He choreographed and premiered his own original ballet, “WHAT MAT COME“, at The Australian Ballet Centre in 1999, and in collaboration with The Anti-Cancer Council of Australia raised valuable funds towards cancer research and awareness.
Mr. McIntyre has also directed and created original full-length ballet productions of “A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM“, “DRACULA”, “THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA“ and “THE WIZARD OF OZ“.
As a Répétiteur, he has re-staged his own versions of “DON QUIXOTE“, “GISELLE“, “LE CORSAIRE“, “SWAN LAKE“, “THE NUTCRACKER“, “THE SLEEPING BEAUTY“ and several International Gala Pieces.
Darren was guest choreographer at The Players Theatre, Port Macquarie for Billy Elliot – The Musical (2025), Georgy Girl – The Seekers Musical (2026) & was Rehearsal assistant of the dance scenes in Rogers & Hammerstein’s “Carousel” with Pensacola Opera / Ballet Pensacola (2023). Darren produced Christmas Spectacular, a holiday revenue show in Montgomery, Alabama (2012).
Mr. McIntyre’s received his Advance Diploma of Dance (Vaganova) in 1999 and has completed up to his Intermediate RAD Examinations (The Royal Academy of Dancing). Darren received his American Ballet Theatre Teaching Curriculum certification, (ABT-Pre-Primary though Level 3) in 2018.
Mr. McIntyre has taught over 3,000 young dancers worldwide. His ability to nurture and inspire young dancers has brought him to the best dance academies, companies, and scholarship programs in the world. In addition, Mr. McIntyre’s summer dance program “Performing in America“ has attracted over 400 dancers, world-wide, during the summer. He has coached, choreographed & worked with students who have placed in the Top 12 at the most prestigious ballet competitions, including The Youth America Grand Prix New York City Finals & Prix de Lausanne, to name a few.
Darren has been Guest Adjudicator and on The Jury at The Australian Classical Grand Prix (2024, 2025, 2026), Australasian Ballet Gala, Perth (2026), AICD – Marilyn Jones Awards/Garth Welch Memorial Prize (2026), Evolution Dance Competition (2024, 2025), Time to Shine (2024, 2026), CSTD Singapore (2025) & Malaysia (2026), Biloela Dance Festival (2025), The South Australia Stage Dancing Society (2024), West Gippsland Dance Festival (2024), at the Bathurst (2024), Burnie City (2025), Cairns (2026), City of Dubbo (2025), Kempsey (2014), Lismore (2026), Royal South Street Society Ballarat (2025), Taree (2012), The City of Ryde (2024) & The City of Sydney (2008), Eisteddfods, as well as at many International Dance Competitions, Auditions and Scholarships. Mr. McIntyre is experienced with both voice critiques or working with a scribe and is well versed in all genres.
Mr. McIntyre is honoured to be a member on Regional Dance America’s National Adjudicators List since 2021 and toured in 2025 adjudicating the RDA Southeast region.
Mr. McIntyre has been a writer/columnist with DANCEtrain Magazine & was the founder and artistic director of The Marianne McIntyre Memorial International Ballet Scholarship, a ballet festival formerly held annually in memory of his mother, fostering young dancers’ education through grants to study within the USA, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Darren was featured in the “Creative Diaspora Exhibition” in association with The Australian Consulate in New York City, USA, in the Film “Unseen Yet Felt”, and in the book “Love it and Leave it Australia’s Creative Diaspora” all by Nathalie Latham. He was special Guest Artist in The Australian Focus Magazine & in several editions of DANCEtrain Magazine and was featured in “The List” in RSVP Magazine in May 2012.
